The English examination on Thursday, 24 April 2008, is but a stone on the long and winding road of life

May 13, 2008

I have yet to take a close look at Paper 2 of the English exam, so, please do not bother asking me questions about it. However, I would love to discuss with anyone on how you could improve your language skills. I hope this will minimise the harassment I get from some of you. πŸ™‚

Based on the nominations given in your comments, I have awarded titles for several well-written blogs. You can see the additional titles on their links. I am truly impressed with the effort put in by quite a number of students. In fact, a handful of you have been consistently posting your weekly journals up even during the examination period. Keep up the great work!

As for the not-so-consistent students, I will be checking your blogs again after 18 June 2008. All students are expected to complete the necessary number of journal entries by that date. Students who fail to comply will be sent for detention. I think I am starting to find this punishment rather convenient. So, my dear students, don’t give me the opportunity to start liking it. Do your journal writing!

Other than completing the weekly journal entries, there are a couple of extra tasks to be done during the holidays.
Task 1) You need to comment on the latest post of all your classmates by 18 June. That means you need to make about 38 comments. Making all 38 comments in one day is strongly discouraged. Please don’t ask me why. Hazard a guess.
Task 2) Post 5 interesting facts about your favourite author and write down why he/she is your favourite in about 100 words. You must do some research on the author before writing up this post. The easiest way, of course, is to search in Wikipedia on the Internet.

Keep your fingers crossed and hope that that is all the English holiday homework there is.

Meanwhile, enjoy the video of George Michael singing “The Long and Winding Road”.

AHHH we have to make comments again!! so many journal entries..have to count with the calendar.chiong all in one day! πŸ™‚ hahaha for the facts about the author can i dont post facts and write a longer story?

  2. mrkek Says:

Hubert: You have to post the 5 facts and you have to write why he/she is your favourite. Surf around the net a little and I am sure you can find plenty of facts.

  3. Yi Han Says:

Can I post about more than one author? It’s rather difficult to choose!

  4. mrkek Says:

Yi Han: Yes. 2 authors would require 10 facts though. You may post about as many favourite authors as you like.

  5. Yi Han Says:

    Maybe I should make a list – recommended authors.=)

  6. Hubert Says:

mrkek can u dont promote jun rui’s blog! 😦

  7. Hubert Says:

hey mrkek can i write more journals during hols and dont use the 5 words for all?:)

  8. mrkek Says:

Hubert: No. Vocabulary building is essential. You would have to use the 5 words while clearing the back-log.

  9. catrin m Says:

    dear mr kek,
the school expect us to complete 1100 words up to week 28. But if we complete all mrkek’s term 2 journal entries, i.e. 10 entries, then we would complete 1100words up till wk30. so which one should we follow??

  10. mrkek Says:

    Catrin: Follow mine. πŸ™‚

  11. Hubert Says:

mrkek, can you don’t promote jun rui’s blog?:)

  12. JiHao Says:

  13. mrkek Says:

JiHao: 1) Underline topic sentences if you are writing on persuasive. 2) Under the subject and verb of every sentence for the first 3 paragraphs.

Tiong Ann here. I got an idea for one of our writing assignments. 3jt participates in the Future Problem Solving Programme where we find problems in a writen future scenario and solve it. The future scenario describes what happens to a particular area of society, science or business (eg Conflict Resolution, Pollution or Job Security) 20 or more years in the future. How about we ask people to write future scenarios. I suppose it can develop creativity and imagination. There is a competition going on too for the best scenario. Maybe the best scenario can be entered to the competition.

Its four journals this holiday right?
Ok, i’ve miraculously done mine in one post.
Anyhow you want to split it into four, matters nothing to me. Divide and Conquer is the key.
